Bill Noel, the acclaimed author of the Folly Beach Mystery Series (“Washout”, “First Light”, “Darkhorse”, “Discord”, and “The Pier” to name a few) recently posted this review of Roger Newman’s new Civil War adventure novel “Will O’ the Wisp: Madness, War, and Recompense.”

As a reader of Dr. Newman’s previous novels, I’ve been impressed by how he masterfully takes complex issues and subject matter and weaves a plot that is both easy to comprehend and enjoyable to read.

His latest effort, Will O’ the Wisp, leaves no doubt that Dr. Newman is a master at taking hold of the reader’s hand and leading him or her through the day-to-day trials and tribulations of Southern nationalists as they face the terror, challenges, and opportunities of the Civil War.

If you’re a student of the Civil War, you’ll find enough history in the novel to broaden your understanding of what took place leading up to, during, and the period after the Civil War. If you’ve wondered what it felt like to live during this period in American history, the book will quench much of your thirst. And, if you’re simply a fan of a well-written novel that both entertains and enlightens, Will O’ the Wish is a must-read.
